Handmade by a British master craftsman these leather napkin rings are pure luxury, embossed with our British queen bee and a brass stud to close them. A table set with napkins means companionship and enjoyment!
Our Bertie limited edition is in memory of a very special uncle and Somerset dairy farmer who gave me my love of cows and would say ‘you’re as welcome as the flowers in spring my dear’
Limited edition: made to order
Size: a set of 4 napkin rings
Options: natural / light tan
Our limited edition Bertie collection is handmade and cut from just two hides, one retaining its natural colour and the other contrasting in a light tan. It means this is a very small run limited edition with no more than 20 sets coming from each 'Bertie' hide.
Each hide has all the character and variation with nicks and stretch marks that you'd expect hinting of our cow’s time in the field: a life we celebrate in this limited edition range, all naturally different.
Our leather goods have all been made for us by Jason Stocks-Young, a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen. I love going to his workshop in an old mill on the edge of the Pennines, so many beautifully kept and displayed tools, leathers, threads and an air of creativity and warmth. I feel so lucky to have found and met someone who shares my ethos and is as excited as I am about the limited editions we can create, all naturally different of course.
British leather is very hard to source, apparently the UK leather industry didn’t move as quickly as the Italians did from using a chrome tanning process to a vegetable one which is less environmentally damaging. The ‘vegetable’ used is tree bark which explains why the naturally veg tanned leathers are shades of brown.
Through Jason our leather maker we’ve discovered one of the oldest leather suppliers in the UK. Based in Northampton they buy their veg tanned leather from Italy and ‘finish’ it at their factory in as sustainable and environmentally friendly a way as possible. This means they make their own water based finishes as most on the market are highly solvented. They use as cream to finish the leather, it’s a natural gel and water proof with natural oils and waxes, just like a skin moisturiser!
This high quality leather has good environmental credentials and is perfect for hard wearing tableware such as our coasters and napkin rings as it can cope with water and heat, neither leaving marks.
2nd class postage and packing to anywhere in the UK is included.
Our leathers are safely packed in British sourced tissue paper and cardboard boxes, Opening the box is a treat with the colourful tissue and the smell of leather.
Leather will age and change over time with the melanin in the leather changing in the light, it develops a patina that’s characterful and unique, reflecting its natural heritage and character.
Keep your napkin rings out of direct sunlight for long periods of time if you don’t want them to get a tan mark!
Other than that, treasure it and enjoy its feel, smell and character.
