We get raw honey from Bridget, near Filey in Yorkshire, UK
Bridget & Jeremy
Bridget inherited 65 hives when her partner, Jeremy Smith, a truly lovely beekeeper died. Bridget’s determined to keep his bees flourishing, and is carrying on from Jeremy as one of our environmentally friendly and ethical small scale beekeepers. We have raw honey from the bees she keeps in Yorkshire.
Jeremy had several years’ experience under his belt and had sited bees at his home, on a Country Estate nearby as well as on farmland overlooking a beautiful valley. I had my best beekeeping day with Jeremy when he took me up to see his bees on the heather at Fylingdales Moor. It was an incredible sight with bees flying like bombers to and fro between the heather and their hive. What a buzz there was in the air! We entered Jeremy’s heather honey into the Great Taste Awards in 2018 and he won 2 stars which just goes to show that honey doesn’t need human interference to make it taste great, leaving it just as the bees made it is just perfect!
Now Bridget is learning to drive a tractor so she too can take the bees to the heather with the help and guidance of other local beekeepers – all of whom are keeping a friendly eye on her as she focuses on keeping the bees well – and then the honey if she’s lucky.
