This spreader is made from birch and you can feel the tree’s strength and solidity in your hand as you use it. It’s blade is the perfect size to load with butter, jams, honeys (of course!) and anything else you want spreading.

A limited edition of just 20 have been made exclusively for Hive & Keeper

DESCRIPTION

Birch has strong long fibres which makes it so good for carving kitchen wares and we love the light colour and gentle grain so you can see all the cuts that Amy's made to perfect their shape. The finishing touch is the yellow painted handles, showing off the wood perfectly and making them a very special limited edition.

Just like our honeys, this comes boxed, nestled in local hay and with a card telling you more about Amy, the maker.

19 cms long

PROVENANCE

These have been carved from British birch, collected from her friend’s sustainably managed woodland near Benenden in Kent. Amy is based in Sussex and has hand carved them for us in her workshop.

SUSTAINABILITY

These have been carved from birch, collected from her friend’s sustainably managed woodland near Benenden in Kent. Because birch is quick growing they sometimes have to thin out self seeded younger birch tress to let in more light for the slower growing oak and ash trees. It's from one of these self-seeded trees that these have been carved from.

These are wooden products and so can go back to the Earth once their useful life is over, leaving no footprint or sign they were ever here. From tree to dust..

FOR CARE

Amy recommends hand washing and storing in a ventilated place. They can be occasionally reoiled if wished with flaxseed, hemp, walnut or grapeseed oil (over the whole thing).
