Honey from bees kept by fields, Goring, Oxfordshire

Crème brûlée — sweet, creamy and smooth, with a long finish that stays with you.
Pale, gentle and quietly extraordinary. Its character is soft rather than bold, which means it enhances rather than overwhelms, a perfect pairing with your tea and coffee. Equally wonderful eaten straight from the spoon. The kind of honey that rewards you for slowing down.
258 jars from the fields at Goring-on-Thames. July.
Mike's bees forage across grazing fields and the gentle Oxfordshire countryside surrounding Goring — a perfectly classic English landscape. This July harvest reflects that unhurried beauty.
Mike started beekeeping 25 years ago after hearing someone on a Radio 4 gardening programme declare it was a wonderful hobby because you only had to do it in good weather. He was immediately and permanently hooked. I loved visiting him and his wife — Mike has a turn of phrase and a wisdom about him that stays with you. He told me that "whatever fills your sails is good for you" and I couldn't agree more.
