This honey has a delicious and interesting flavour and is also darker in colour than most. The flavour very strong with a caramel/brown sugar/molasses character, reminding me of dried fruit too.

The story of the beekeeper included

Gavin thinks that this honey's unusual character may be down to there being quite a lot of willowherb around him this year which the bees worked hard.

His garden is surrounded by the flat Norfolk countryside with it’s huge open vistas as well as the other gardens in the village so Gavin suspects that his bees mainly visit nearby brambles and hedgerows as well as a stream and the marshy boundary he has to his garden.

Gavin has been keeping bees for 40 years, since persuading his parents to let him have some as a young boy. He has just retired as an NHS scientist - one of the perks of his job was that he could use the polystyrene boxes his scientific samples were sent to him in as insulated roofs for his hives! I thoroughly approve of finding new ways of using old things and keeping them out of landfill.

We work with small scale British beekeepers who we visit to talk bees with and see the bees and landscapes that make each honey. All of our beekeepers are good custodians of their bees and the woodlands, meadows, gardens and fields they keep them in. They talk to local farmers, landowners, fellow allotment owners and councils to encourage planting for pollinators, sustainable woodland management and protecting the natural landscape for their bees.  Our aim is to bring you special limited edition honeys from more and more British beekeepers: as long as they're good custodians of their bees of course!

Our jars and labels are all British sourced to keep our transport miles and carbon footprint low. We absorb the extra cost

Free 2nd class postage and packing to anywhere in the UK.

Our honeys are safely packed in Yorkshire hay and British sourced cardboard boxes, Opening the box is a treat with the sweet smell of summer and our jar of honey nestling inside.
