Well if you’re going to use a bottle stopper it might as well be impressive!  This one is made from a whole roe deer’s antler so each one is totally unique, naturally different and very special.

The roe deer’s antlers have been sourced from Scotland and the deer farming industry there – then turned into his beautiful bottle stopper by the last remaining horn works in the UK.

No animal has been killed purely for their antlers.

Size 230mm x 50mm

DESCRIPTION

Antler is usually a dark brown colour but can range from light brown through to creamy white. It has a weight to it and is lovely to hold, so tactile you’ll love the feel in your hand.

Just like our honeys, this comes boxed, nestled in local hay and with a card telling you more about Abbeyhorn, the maker.

PROVENANCE

Abbeyhorn are proud to be the last remaining horn works in Britain. Based at Carnforth, Lancashire and are able to trace their long history back to 1749 and their first horn works in Worcestershire.

Using traditional methods and a small workforce of skilled horn carvers they produce a range of products, including these made from antlers from Scottish Red Deer.

SUSTAINABILITY

Horn has unique qualities and is the original plastic, with all the same attributes but without the downsides!

Horn is incredibly strong and long lasting, but also pliable and easy to bend and shape when it’s heated. It doesn’t carry flavour either so you won’t taste it or taint anything by using it.

Horn is a natural and biodegradable by-product of the meat industry. It’s rich in calcium too which makes it a great fertiliser, something our ancestors realised hundreds of years ago! It means that horn can happily go back to nature when it’s life is over, leaving no mark or footprint behind for future generations to worry about.

 PRODUCT CARE

Abbeyhorn recommends you:

  • Wash before first use
  • Hand wash items
  • Only use tepid water
  • Use a very mild soap
  • Rub gently with a soft cloth
  • Towel dry immediately
  • keep items in an environment that is dry and will not have extreme temperature changes, which will protect it from possible fading and any cracking or movement. Horn is naturally grainy and has the ability to swell if exposed to too much moisture.
